Those are the the four primary and universal drivers of employee engagement, says the Kenexa Research Institute’s annual Work Trends study. Kenexa has again found managers are key; effective managers earned a score of 68% engagement from their staff compared with a measly 12% for those who were called ineffective. Employees who are confident in their senior leaders and the future of their employer had engagement scores four to five times higher than employees who lacked that confidence. And corporate responsibility efforts increased overall satisfaction for both the youngest and the oldest workers. The survey also compared those who traveled a lot for business with those who didn’t, and found that heavy travelers (traveling 40%-60% of the time) were the most engaged. But conversely, they were also the ones most likely to consider leaving within the next 12 months.
